This site is about far away places. It is about all the countries of the world, about different cultures, interesting people, great adventures and amazing experiences.

The site's content is being continually created by people who travel - from the most adventurous people travelling for years around the world, to family holidayers who have interesting experiences to share.

If you have interesting experiences or useful info about a place, country or are travelling or planning to travel we encourage you to join our community. At least contribute an article or info that would help other travellers on their journeys.

For more about the type of travellers who are welcome to contribute to our community go here.

Intended audience

Intended audience of this site is virtually everybody...

Those who like to read about exotic places and experiences of other people can use this website just as a book, reading diaries written by people who actually travelled in those places.

Holidayers can find lots of useful info on our pages with stories, suggestions and tips.

And the serious travellers/adventurers… For you people out there getting the experiences of your lives this site has so many services that it is hard to know where to start to describe them all. For an attempt to do exactly that go here.

Not interested in travelling? Not interested in reading about experiences of others either? Maybe you just like the feeling from helping other people... In such case you can still become invaluable member of our community just by submitting some useful info about the country you live in. Information useful to travelers include: price of petrol in your country, prices of groceries, the most visible mistakes in behaviour you see travellers doing in your country that don't go along with your customs, customs in haggling and tipping if at all expected etc. There are many things that can help visitors to your country getting the most of their stay while at the same time not impacting negatively by their presence.

Services offered

Are you going for a short holiday into a foreign country? Then you can just browse to the country and its area where you are heading and find out where to go for interesting sites, local people or good restaurants. You’ll hear what is worthwhile and what is not from other travellers and what kind of experience you might expect from your trip. This way our site can help you to get the most out of your stay in a foreign country. Other things like cost of living, visa obtaining experiences and other info can also be of your interest.

Planning a big journey? Then you'll need lots of information about the countries you are going to travel going into bigger depth then in the previous example. You might be looking for many more additional services that will help you with your planning and while on your way and beyond. Here is what is on offer for you:

First of all this site can very easily become your travel diary for free. As you can see from the subtitle of our website we have decided to create a website that travellers can go to and publish their experiences. The whole site is for travellers and is created by travellers. By offering you a great deal of services we would like to attract as many of you as possible so that the website can serve you and other people as a great source of travelling information.

There is a few websites out there that offer hosting of your travel diaries. Some quite good, others not so good; some specialized on overland travel, some on backpacking and some only on a certain area. Still a large percentage of people opt for having their very own website for their travelogue. The reasons may be many, but mostly it is because they wouldn't have enough freedom in their webs' design and the design of the existing travel diary website is poor, nor they are offered services that would at least counterbalance the first disadvantage. Well, our website tries to attempt just that! - We would like to offer you a wealth of services topped with good graphical and logical design of the site.

The services we offer you – the main points:

  • Wealth of information to help you plan your trip and save you from troubles once on your way (visa requirements, cost of living, recommendation of what is worth to see and what not, location of places described by latitude and longitude, road conditions, border crossing tips, vehicle insurance prices on borders, useful links and much more…).
  • Placement of your plan on our site with several security levels of display (see more below).
  • Placement of your diary at our site together with photos, their descriptions etc. on a well designed website.
  • Easy update of your diary.
  • Groups of travellers can share diaries and still contribute to them individually.
  • Automatic map plotting done for you.
  • Suspended release of your articles to aid against unauthorized third parties being able to track and anticipate your moves (see more below).
  • Immediate update of your plan and its display to authorized parties (like your family or close friends) to allow them know almost exactly where you are or supposed to be at any time or in a case of emergency (be it a family emergency or you not contacting them on an agreed date or within agreed period).
  • Advertising for new travel partners.
  • Finding out if there are any travelers in the same area were you are at the moment and contacting them.
  • Allowing anybody to set you as his or her default traveller and therefore allowing them to easy follow your adventures (authorized users will always see the latest info, others will see everything with a delay you can set yourself).
  • Allowing any website visitors to rate your articles and to all travellers to rate any place they visited, thus aiding for easier orientation for any visitor of the website to see what articles are worth reading and what places are worth going to. (There are several statistics and top ten pages.)
  • Attract sponsors and keep efficient communication with them.
  • Visitors can automatically receive lists of new articles since their last visit on the website.
  • Planned are also several free software packages for easy update of the website and its reading (see more below).
  • You also can designate your photos as being for sale on our website and set the price.
  • You can present slide shows to your audience straight from the web.
  • You can use our web as a backup location for your electronic photos in full size.
  • After you return, you can get printable versions or your diaries for archiving.

Probably one of the best ways how to describe what this site can do for you, is to take you step by step through all the stages of a typical trip from preparation through on-road updates to presentation of your adventures to audience after you return.

Here we go:

Say that you are planning a one-year long motorbike trip through Asia and West Africa.

Before you go
Already the planning stage of your adventure will be a very big task. For example you will need to know:

  • What countries you need visa for?
    • how much does it cost for travellers from your country
    • where, how and how much in advance you need to obtain it
    • waiting periods (it is in some cases days or even weeks between the time you apply for visa and the time you actually get it – if you didn’t know it could seriously impact your planned itinerary)
    • are there any shortcuts to obtaining visas for particular countries (maybe an embassy in one of the neighbouring countries is issuing visa in much higher speed than an embassy of the same country in another neighbouring country; what you should say, what you definitely shouldn’t say when applying)
    • what you need to apply (how many photos?; maybe a letter of recommendation from an embassy of your country; a translation of your passport in Arabic? etc.)
  • Are there any restrictions on taking your own vehicle into a country? (Some countries have restrictions on even temporary vehicle imports.) If there are some restrictions what special permits do you need to have to get your vehicle in?
  • Are there any restrictions of travel to some parts of a country? What are they? Can you maybe get a special permit? Where and how?
  • To be able to budget you would need to know what the latest cost of petrol is in each country and prices of some basic groceries. What is the exchange rate?
  • Are there any special considerations?
  • Are there any tips for things to bring with you or to prepare for? Any useful latest gadgets that can make your life easier?

When your plan is ready you can replicate it on our website and if you want you can secure it so that certain groups of people can see only certain depth of detail. By doing so you are fulfilling part of one of the basic rules you should follow when travelling, which is to keep reliable third parties aware of where you going and how long are you going to stay in case you would get into some emergency. You will probably want your family to know in detail and others to have just overall plan of your journey with only rough dates or no dates at all.

You can also find travel partners using the website.

While on your way

While on your way you will require the easiest possible access to your diary to update it. You can update our site very easily while leaving you the possibility to create interlinked pages and photos with other info.

Another way to update your web diary will be (not available yet) to keep updating the content as you go on your laptop off-line using our free update software and once you can connect your computer to internet transfer all the updates including photos with one push of a button.

You can include text of pictures that are only visible to certain groups of people like adding personal notes only directed to your family into the text.

You can define groups of travellers travelling together and share one diary by the all group. At the same time each individual has his or her own login and can update the diary separately. This website visitors to follow your journey as a group while identifying the authors of each article.

There will be a service that will automatically plot your plan and your actual progress on maps adding them automatically to your articles. (This feature is subject to the minimum amount of people using our website and the actual demand for this feature, since it requires some considerable investment and development time on our side.)

You will be able to find and contact other travellers using our website that are currently in the same area as you.

You can opt for having prints of your photos offered for sale. (For more info go here.)

Should your way part with your current travel partner you can look and advertise for somebody else and then match your plans using the website.

You can look for sponsors on your way and use the website as a selling point since you can include pictures, descriptions and links to any sponsors – be it a little hostel where you spent one night for a better price of for free thanks to this.

Maybe you have a digital camera with you and your memory cards are getting full. You have several options for how to deal with such situations including: stopping taking pictures, buying a new card, using specialized photo-labs or computer centres to transfer it on paper or a CD, using some friends on the way with a computer and a burner etc. Our website adds just one more option for you to consider – you can upload the photos in your storage on our website and pick it up when you are ready.

Even in case you actually carry a laptop or some other backup medium with you, you might still think about our storage room as a safe backup, because your computer can be lost or stolen, CDs that you sent home lost on their way or the computer can be damaged by water, impact or other means.

Security situation

Just before getting into a specific country you might need to check the security situation in that country.

While you should always get this info from your embassy or from their website the information on such websites are mostly too generic and very conservative. Reading about travels of other people in the country you are going to, the dates when such travel was conducted together with a common sense will generally give you a better idea about security conditions and ease of travel in that country. Most government websites will tell you about the worst-case scenarios because it is their duty to warn you. However in most cases the situation is not as bad as they would make you believe. Some of the best countries to travel in as far as sights, natural beauty and hospitability go are often almost demonised to a western traveller thanks to our media. For example there might be some troubled areas in a particular country, but it may be localized to just one corner of it and such condition may have lasted there for years without any change, leaving the rest of the country to explore, where often find the loveliest people.

Read other people’s experiences from that country on our website, assess how many travelers are giving consistent reports and how recent the reports are, consider your governments latest recommendation and then use your head to decide how great or small the risk really is and if you are ready to accept it.

Once you are in a country

Once in a country, it would help you to know

  • special customs,
  • how to get or shed attention of local people,
  • what is the average salary in the country (so that you have better idea about the amounts of tips that might be appropriate without being unreasonable to the local people by underpaying them or to yourself by overpaying unnecessarily.

The website provides for entry of such information and their subsequent retrieval and display by other website users.

After you are back

You can still keep your diary on our website. It will help others to find info on the countries you traveled to and you can use it for presentation to any audience.

You can also retrieve a printable copy of your whole diary for hard copy archiving.

You can keep your photos on the website and have them presented with options for sale. If you are a good photographer you stand a good chance that you will make some sales of enlarged prints of your photos to interested visitors of the site. You may even get some advertising or similar companies interested in buying your photographs for example.

You can order a certificate of your travels as a reminder of your big journey. Or your family might want to give it to you as a present.

We encourage you to use and update this website with as much useful info as possible. This will help to the whole traveling community and ultimately to you (maybe next time you want to travel you will find the info you need somebody else entered before while the same person might have received valuable info from your entry).

Help the community and traveling will become yet easier for us all!
